Death by TV

I don’t know if I can stand another day of watching American television advertising while I remain an ecological refugee stranded in New York City.

If I see one more ad for any one of a 100 drugs for sale with names like Chearitin, Vaneleniline, Optrimicin, etc. I may go mad.

Each ad goes like this: “Do you suffer from depression? Optrimicin may help you and is clinically proven to reduce depression in 4 out of 10 people. Call now for your first 30 days of treatment for only $49.95 + tax + shipping. Optrimicin doesnt work for everyone. You should consult your physician is you suffer from any of the following: Shortness of breath, dizziness, impaired vision, headaches, migraines, involuntary muscle spasms which may become permanent, bladder weakness, incontinence, irritable bowel syndrome, skin rashes, burning sensation along the esophagus, burning sensation while urinating, chest pains, blackouts, muscle cramps, sweating, pancreatic cancer, psychosis, deep unending depression, or suicidal tendencies. Optrimicin should not be taken if you are pregnant or suffer from high blood pressure, low blood pressure, bipolar disorder, hair loss, or are overweight. Optirimicin has helped 1000s of people already get on with enjoying their lives, act now.”

These ads are usually followed by this type of ad: “Have you or anyone in your family suffered permanent brain damage or death while taking Vaneleniline? Call 1-800-BRAIN-DEAD now to participate in a class action law suit against the makers of Vaneleniline. Time is running out, and the deadline for all claims is this May 1st. No legal costs upfront, call now.”

I need to get back to the TV now.
